Kasi — a colloquial derivative of the Afrikaans lokasie — is what South Africans call the township. Created by Acts of Parliament like the Group Areas Act of 1950, townships were engineered as controllable, under-resourced dormitory communities, far from economic opportunity.

They remain home to some of the deepest, most concentrated poverty in the country — yet also to powerful reserves of creativity and resistance. myKasi360° exists to unlock that potential.

We contend that urgent action and unrelenting effort must be directed towards a community-based approach to township development. So we designed the 360° Model — a comprehensive plan to galvanise the township's creative forces, putting the power to transform society into the hands of the community itself.
